yay Sophie & Edward have named their baby (or at least told the
press), so I'd just like to say "hello" to Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary
Mountbatten-Windsor

i wonder if mankind will ever realise that we have to live in harmony
with the rest of the planet, as we continue to wipe out species...this
time its our own ancestors the apes. I know we may have got to the top
of the food chain(albeit with some technological help) but it doesn't
mean we should destroy everything below us.

here's the a link to the BBC news site about the fire at Jordanhill last night

oh yeah and i almost forgot...Jordanhill College went up in smoke..that's the Teaching college attached to my uni (strathclyde)...no link to a news item but it made it on the radio!more news as it happens!

well to all the critics out there who didn't like Love Actually,
i'd like to say :-P as I've just been to see it and it was rather good
fun...yes all the things they said were true, but it was a good, feel
good film, despite the people who didn't get attached or broken up. all
I can say that is Andrew Lincoln's character was just soo me! beware
anyone who's getting married! I think i'll be adding it to my set of
feel good, Christmas films, along with the perennial favourite, Its A Wonderful Life, which of course starred Gregory Peck who passed away earlier this year, and who (i believe) was voted the sexiest actor ever.

i like this definition of the UK for
its humour value, but other wise America go away!

it is still good to see some software programmers still giving the
whole DRM stuff the finger. Better known for his DeCSS program, DVD Jon is back, and this time its iTunes that have been hit! that and he's gonna be back in court over DeCSS soon too.

in the era where there is a huge fight to get music available online, we have this story about music giant Vivendi Universal deleting the entire mp3.com archive...talk
about heathens, IMHO its similar to the book burnings that took place
in the 1930/40s. you can read some of the attempts to save the archive by Mike Robertson. VU don't lose anything by letting Archive.org to, well archive it.

he he he this tickled me given it is the season of goodwill and ripping off the customer for every penny that they're worth! courtesy of Boing Boing Blog

its been a while since the last set of updates..been busy partying and spending all my money...but this caught
my eye as a quite a quirky story that was rather endearing. I can
really admire the guy for reading the NYTimes cover to cover (except
for the Sports, Escapes & Circuit's sections) as I rarely get
through one a week!

Ahh the world is full of maniacs...one being garbageman (with his home
made tesla coil) and this lot..electromagnetic weapons galore! including a rail gun..heheheheh...i think this photo about sums it up!

US Attacks Nuclear Report On Iran...this
sounds awfully familiar, did they do the same thing with the UN weapons
inspectors on Iraq? the IAEA say they can conclusively prove that
nuclear weapons (Or WMDs in Iraq) and the US say "yes they are" and go
and stomp on them...it really does seem that Dubya and the rest have an
agenda to seriously damage a large number of countries in the Middle
East!

it has still been a hectic week at work...all you gits who decided that
we should take on all the work are...oh hangon that was
us...ohshite...anyway all this hard graft (well ok i'll admit i've
worked a 2.5day week this week) has meant that i've not really had a
chance to pick up on anything stupid or especially annoying to rant
about...or so i thought! it was only this evening when i was (well last
week was) invited to go see (well requested) one of my friends in their
show for part of their course.
Now me being all very supportive of up and coming talent in the acting
world etc etc, decide yeah, its a friend who's asked, and i've got more
than one of them in the show, so might as well...well i'd like to say
that i've not been that bored for 1hr 20minutes in a long, long
time...no offence (well probably lots of offence) but there was very
little to hold my interest...the lead played everything
over the audience's heads...which is a little annoying when you're
sitting 2feet away from them...some of the supporting cast were just
plain ropey... and this will sound a little nepotistic but of the 4
times(maybe) that the play took on some life, 3 of those incidents had
either one of my friends or both of them in it as active participants
(i.e. speaking & interacting with the lead) the rest of the time
there was no hooks....with a cast of at least 15, there were lots of
people on stage and when stuff was happening there was nothing to
direct you to any particular thing it was almost like a visual version
of Phil Specter's "Wall of Sound"...just not as interesting...this i
think is in part to the lead not having any sort of presence on stage,
she was almost always drowned out by anything that happened in the
background...ok they're still students, but there was something lacking
and it may be a combination of a lack of experience in some parts, and
quite a baffling script...still there was definate room for improvement
in a fair proportion of the cast.
however that said...there were some very nice things...the lighting was
very well done, and did give an appropriate air to scenes, and the
soundtrack was again appropriate, subtle were necessary and vibrant and
brass when required...and also whilst the overall performance was (i
personally rate) poor, the technical technical ability was apparent in
some of the complicated chorus/movement sequences, and generally
good... all in all it had is moments(well) but just fell down in
grabbing the audiences attention and holding on to it, which once lost
is very difficult to get back...i think there were some people who
picked up right at the end when the lead took her top off,
(?un?)fortunately for me by that point i was counting the moments until
the end. a shame for the NC class of the year before which put on a
varied and interesting show last year...it seems that they were just
unable to reproduce something of anything near that calibre.

Shape from Shading...been
doing some research for work into book scanning and the different ways
of doing it, and came across this write up about how to correct the
curvature of a book when its scanned on the basis of the shading that
you get off a scanner...very interesting...and possibly a little
project for my self in the future!

Can I rotate the display?..finally an post to allow me to rotate my new TFTs...just have to see if it works under 2003!
