Well it seems that most of Scotland is gearing up for the G8 summit at the start of the July. A lot of people I know are planning to go and protest (or at least see what the whole thing is about), and one of them is actually going to have a wind turbine on display there (check out Renewable Devices).
As a public service broadcast, I've got some got some information from Scotrail about what they'll be doing to shift the large number of people expected and how their services will be affected...
Passengers wishing to travel to the major events in Edinburgh during the first week in July are advised to plan your journey, buy tickets in advance and allow extra time for travel. You should expect to have to queue at main stations.
First Scotrail is preparing for large numbers of people to travel from all over Scotland to the Make Poverty History March on Saturday 2 July; the Stop the War Coalition March on Sunday 3 July and the Live8 concert at Murrayfield Stadium on Wednesday 6 July.
Additional carriages willbe added to services where possible. Even with this increase in capacity we expect services to be extremely busy.
We will be making every effort to assist passengers traveling to these events and additional staff will be available to offer assistance and help manage the large volumes of people passing through our stations. We will also be working alongside British Transport Police, Network Rail and our other industry partners to ensure we provide as smooth a journey as possible.
First Scotrail will be concentrating resources on getting people to Edinburgh and all available carriages will be used to enhance these services. as a result there will be no additional capacity on services to Gleneagles.
Access to Edinburgh Waverley will be restricted during week commencing Saturday 2 July 2005. Entry to the station will be via the North ramp entrance. Exit will be via the South Ramp only. All other entry and exit points will be closed. There will be no vehicle access to the station during this time. New Street car park will remain open and the taxi rank will be relocated to Market Street.
For public safety reasons, Haymarket and Glasgow Queen Street car parks will be closed from 0001 on Friday 1 July until 0530 on Friday 8 July 2005. All vehicles should be removed from these car parks before 2359 on Thursday 30 June 2005.
