August 2005 Archives

Apparently the EIFF has decided that Camera Phones are a viable way for nasty people to make recordings of films in the Cinema, and so they've banned them from screenings. If you have ever seen the quality of the video taken by a camera phone you'll know that the quality is so low (typically 320x120) that is pretty much unwatchable, and totally un-enjoyable.

This action seems to be a pretty cynical attempt to protect their copyright from a technique which (probably) no one would use. Any copy that a real thief would use would result in a much higher quality (and hence more valuable) copy. So they'll take your phone (and probably make you indemnify them for loss/damage) for no good reason.

Back to work...

So its the summer and works ramping up towards the busy September period, and what do I go and do...sign up for a show at the start of October...well it will keep me out of trouble I guess. It should also push forward the development of Glasgow Theatre Underground.

This project (between myself and Bruce Downie) has been going on for about 9 months now (the earliest post at the minute is November 3rd 2004), and has been an experiment in running a very specifically aimed portal site. And we can say that a number of people have received work via postings on GTU (guys we'd like a cut!).

FIRE!

It seems that despite not living in university halls of residence, I am still subject to the vagaries of random fire alarms. This time it appears that a fire was detected in the basement of my block of flats. So we currently have 3 engines in attendance. Of course my flatmate is complaining that there are fire men and she looks like crap, but then she really should have gotten out of bed about 3hrs ago (and gone to work!).

More news later if anything interesting happens.
