As the resident Geek, I'm the one that is frequently posting about computer games, and a couple of weeks back I posted about a Massively Multiplayer First Person Shooter called Huxley. Well it seems that Sony Online Entertainment might have beaten Huxley to the punch, with the launch of PlanetSide.
More after the Jump...
I've been an SOE customer before with Star Wars Galaxies (which they ruined in the end) but I'm so far liking what I'm seeing here. The basic premise is run around a shoot people, and you get points and experience, and guns. The big difference is that your actual hand-eye coordination will have an effect on how long you stay alive, not just how good your skills are. And the persisten world aspect of online games means that, unlike in games like Enemy Territory or Quake, next time you enter the game to play, you still have all your old weapons, records and abilities.
The full "Active Duty" mode requires a subscription but they have just released a "Reserves" game which will allow you to play for free, but with some restrictions. I'll let you know how it plays!
Ok there are a couple of caveats:
- The Reserves runs for a year from 26th March 2006
- You can only get up to Battle Rank 6, to go further you have to subscribe to the full game and buy the full client
