We've managed to not burn our flat down...
Fortunately my girlfriend is a little bit more observant than I am, and noticed a small flicrkering in one of our main lights...within the casing...
Cue slight burning smell...
So rapidly turning off the power, and judicious application of a screwdriver, it appears that one of the flat's IKEA lights, seems to have had a hissy fit now that its getting its full load of electricity (having removed the dimmer switch earlier this weekend).
Annoyingly we just replaced the other light fittting cos it completely stopped working.
I've now read the internets...all of it...nothing more left...
Well not quite. My friend Sammiches used to work for a renewable energy company that was going to send to Malawi a shipping container of medical stuff that was powered by one of their turbines (I don't think they ever did actually ship it).
I think this would have been a much better application of their effort...
[Update] More container related news...apparently Google has a patent for Container based data centers...Sammiches PLEASE say you applied for your Container based medical centre!
I normally rant about how much I dislike going back to Edinburgh, but a funny thing happened on this trip. I actually didn't mind it too much. I think my main issue with 'burgh is the living with my family and I actually think that if I had a nice place near the city centre, I could actually cope with living there...maybe...Of course a job would be a requisite.
Scary! I'm buying a flat! EEEK!
with this, especially frame 3, but the other way round :-D
Its strange, the media and politicians are forever saying how violent computer games and films make people violent. They never mention how they make people better. Everytime i watch the West Wing for example I feel inspired and want to be a writer or policy maker or some such. It raises within me an urge to aspire to a similar role. Why is that affect of films and computer games talked about in the news?
Hmm it was always going to come up eventually, being an Inter-web connected Geek running and hosting sites for other people. I've been approach regarding some items posted on a site that I host. Nothing serious (yet), so I'm covering my ass here and stating my personal thoughts on freedom of speech.
Basically as long as you (some one posting stories/blogs on a Phoenix Productions hosted service) are not being defamatory (or in this case it would be specifically libelous) you are free to say what you like. You can be contraversial, angry, sad...I don't care. I'm not going to edit your opinions(to be perfectly honest there's a good chance I've not even read your opinion) BUT I am not stupid enough to let you do anything ILLEGAL. Of course whether I think a post is libelous or not is an entirely different question.
Anyway my server, my money, MY RULES (and what ever pertinent legal ones apply too ;-) )
its been a while since the last post on this random collection of ramblings. Mostly I've been doing shows (pretty much since October-ish) and just working the day job :-(
It seems that despite not living in university halls of residence, I am still subject to the vagaries of random fire alarms. This time it appears that a fire was detected in the basement of my block of flats. So we currently have 3 engines in attendance. Of course my flatmate is complaining that there are fire men and she looks like crap, but then she really should have gotten out of bed about 3hrs ago (and gone to work!).
More news later if anything interesting happens.
Most people would call it a little sad and pathetic, but I've been without an internet connection in my flat for the last couple of weeks (since before our Japan trip in fact) and whilst I have 'net access at work, not having at is actually quite disturbing.
since I last posted anything on here...that said i've got about 4 different sites all with slightly different stuff: there's my work blog, there's Damnit Someones Got It Already and then there's Glasgow Theatre Underground. And that's not counting the wiki at work and all the rest of the work related stuff...
So for anyone who might read this sorry for not being around more. Anyway Sammiches has got me started on his list of webcomics, which has gotten me started drawing...afterall all my friends have to be a source of untapped entertainment :-)
For anyone who does read this, I'm still here but I'm currently rather distracted by various other "Grassroots" journalism projects (GTU) and work (both the day job and the production of "The Devils") to have any time to keep up with the copyright stuff thats happening
I've decided that I'm developing a probably unhealthy interest in "Random Things", especially on the Net with the addition of the "Random Blogger Blog" button on the sidebar.
