Welcome back, communication
It's been a while, hasn't it? What with one thing and another, NB has been rather...uh, totally neglected over the past six months. This would, I imagine, be a much bigger deal if I could claim the existence of an audience. As it stands, the very small event of me picking up a keyboard once again does not rank particularly highly in the all time chart of uniformly uninteresting events. I take some comfort from this. In fact, if anyone happens to be reading this, congratulations! You've just experienced the birth of a bouncing baby non-event.
There is a sense in which blogs are essentially pointless. They are cultural ephemera, entirely meaningless outwith the contexts they reference, are related to, are inspired by. In essence, they carry as much weight as a conversation in a bar or a thought rattling around in someone's brain.
But there is more than just that. Combine the intimate relationship between a blog entry and the event that it relates to, as well as the persistence of the form (blogs have the advantage of permanence over conversations and thoughts) and the blog represents a kind of record of human existence, which is as banal, enlightening, pathetic and inspiring as anything you'll see on a monitor.
